Rewards Credit Cards

The rewards that credit cards are able to offer generally come from the pocket of the merchant where you are making your purchase. Merchants that accept credit cards generally account for the fees that credit card companies charge by raising prices. If you shop with a merchant who accepts credit cards, you owe it to yourself to collect as large of a reward as possible.

Top reward credit cards of this year:

citi costco card

1. Costco Citi Card

To carry this card in your wallet, you need to have a Costco membership. The good news for those who have a Costco membership is that the annual fee is waived for you. If you don’t have a Costco membership, then the offer to carry this card means that you will need to get a Costco membership, which will save you big time on groceries, household items, computers, appliances and TopTier gasoline.

We chose this card as our #1 pick of 2019 because of the practical savings that this card can offer. This card offers 4% cash back on gasoline (at any gas station), 3% back on restaurants, hotels and travel, 2% back on Costco purchases, and 1% back on all other purchases.

The biggest downside of this rewards card is that rewards are paid only once a year, in March, for the previous calendar year in the form of a check!

Chase sapphire reserve visa

2. Chase Sapphire Reserve Visa Card

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Visa is our #2 pick for 2019. We chose this card above most of the other rewards cards out there for the perks that this card offers just for carrying the card. This card is a must for those who travel frequently (including international travel). The Chase Sapphire Reserve offers 3x points on all dining and travel purchases, and no foreign transaction fees on international purchases. The real benefits come from what the card offers as perks and credits for those who travel.

This card pays for itself if you are a frequent traveler. With over $300 dollars in credit that you can use for travel related expenses such as fees for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry fees this card is a must for the frequent traveler.

The annual fee of $450 may be a deal-beaker if you are not able to use the perks designed for frequent travelers.

amex blue card

3. American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card

We included the American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card because it offers some of the highest cash back percentages that we’ve ever heard of, for expenses that a typical family has. This card offers 6% cash back (up to $6,000 annually) on all purchases made at supermarkets and grocery stores! It also offers 6% back on streaming services, and 3% back on gas, transit and ride-share expenses!

The cash back rewards add up quickly on typical family expenses.

This card has a $95 annual fee, but this is quickly offset with $1500 spent at any grocery store!

Barclays' Arrival+ mastercard

4. Barcley’s Arrival+ Mastercard

We chose the Barclay’s arrival+ Mastercard because of the generous bonus that you will earn after signing up. Choose this credit card If you are planning an international vacation and plan on spending $5000 within the first three months of opening an account. Purchase airfare for you, your spouse, and your children plus all of the hotels and taxis that you will need, and you will surely meet the $5000 dollar minimum spending in the first three months. This is assisted by the fact that all foreign trans action fees are waived on this card.

This card does have an $89 annual fee that is not waived like some other offers, but if you can spend the $5000 soon after opening an account, you will be handsomely rewarded.
